|제목||2012 GDPC Annual Report|
Since 2010, we have witnessed a growing demand for international cooperation in the field of
infrastructure development. The demands of developing countries to learn Korea’s economic
development experiences and development models have increased rapidly. In particular, there
was a huge increase in demand for sharing Korea’s experiences and knowledge on national
territorial and regional development, urban development, and construction of infrastructure. In
addition, becoming a member of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of OECD in
2009, Korea has increased its volume of Official Development Assistance and received much
attention from developing countries which are impressed with development model of Korea
which joined the ranks of the advanced countries for a short period of time.
In the meantime, Korean businesses are expanding their operations globally, seeking to enter
international infrastructure development markets. In 2009 when Korea reached its maturity on
development of infrastructure such as road networks, railroads, and ports, its market started to
show some signs of slowing so Korean companies seek to advance into foreign markets.
In order to effectively respond to strong demand for international cooperation at home and
abroad, the Korean Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) established the Global
Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at the end of 2010. The purpose of the GDPC lies in
the support of economic development of developing countries by contributing to a balanced
development of international society with the knowledge and experiences of the KRIHS that has
accumulated over the past 36 years.
Since its establishment, the GDPC has conducts the following businesses. First, it provides
educational training to deliver experiences and knowledge of Korea to developing countries.
Educational training programs are flexibly designed for a 1-week to 6-week period according to
the needs of trainees and the purpose of the program.
